Best Two-Player Nintendo Switch Games to Play this Summer

Grab your controllers and iced bev, because today we’re diving into the wonderful world of two-player Nintendo Switch games!

For decades, Nintendo has put out a treasure trove of multiplayer delights. Two-player games get you engaged, so you can team up, compete, and even engage in some friendly rivalry. Personally, our family NES system was definitely the cause of many competitive outbursts in the ‘90s. There’s no doubt the Nintendo Switch continues to deliver family-friendly fun!

From racing through colorful chaotic race tracks to some more heartfelt adventures focused on teamwork, you’ll find something fun to play this summer!

This list is focused on local co-op or split screen gaming, not online multiplayer. These games are intended to play in the presence of others, hanging out on the couch or on-the-go.

Let’s explore the top-notch entertainment these ‘two-player switch games’ have in store for you and your favorite gaming partner. Get ready to laugh, strategize, and celebrate the joy of gaming side by side!

Super Mario Odyssey

There’s a reason you see a Mario game on every best of list, it’s truly the epitome of a Nintendo two-player experience. This critically-acclaimed 3D platformer is beloved by all ages and is one of the best titles in recent Mario times.

Super Mario Odyssey will have you and your partner solving puzzles, uncover secrets, and explore captivating kingdoms! However, fans of Mario can still expect the tried-and-true classic formula. It’s unique charm and challenges that bring something new for audiences young and old. Try this one out with longtime and new Nintendo fans!

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The game that has forged (and destroyed) friendships has truly stood the test of time; the series to this day is one of the most-played Nintendo titles of all time, with Mario Kart 8 actually holding the top spot of the most sold Switch game ever. There’s no denying the charm of the characters, the chaotic tricks and crazy tracks.

If you’ve never played a Mario Kart title before, there’s no better time than now! Nintendo recently released a Booster Course Pass, a paid DLC that offers 36 new tracks. However, you can’t get them all at once, they’re being released in waves over time. The Booster Course Pass is available for purchase or claiming it through your Nintendo Switch Online account.

Disney Speedstorm

Fans of the House of Mouse can test their racing skills on a split-screen with Disney Speedstorm! This game is essentially a Disney remake of the above Mario Kart 8, with lots of daily and weekly challenges and chances to play as your favorite Disney characters.

This one’s still in Early Access though, so proceed with caution and decide if the $30 and up price point is worth it for you. Disney Speedstorm is anticipated to be free to play, with microtransactions, at a later date.

Stardew Valley

It wouldn’t be a gaming roundup if I didn’t mention my favorite game of all-time, Stardew Valley! This farming simulation game offers lots of options for multi-player, including local co-op split screen. You can also play online wherever you are!

What better way to bond than sharing your bountiful harvest of crops, having each others backs in the mine or even getting married together in game? Stardew Valley is all the wholesome vibes you could ask for – plus, you can play on the same two-player game for endless hours of gameplay.

It Takes Two

This action-adventure platformer has been gaining popularity due to its inspirational message and wholesome world. However don’t let that fool you, this game is jam-packed full of challenges.

The Game of the Year winner in 2021, this game is specifically designed for split-screen co-op, so this is the best experience you’ll get if you want to work as a team. So grab two controllers and enjoy teaming up, beating challenges, and learning something about each other along the way. After all, it takes two!

Overcooked All You Can Eat

By far the most chaotic on this list (yes, even more so than Mario Kart), Overcooked has been a long-time fan favorite for multiplayer fun. Overcooked All You Can Eat combines the original two games, plus additional content.

Enjoy hundreds of levels of collaborative cooking chaos: we recommend getting yourself set up with lots of snacks for a family game night! This is also the first Overcooked game to integrate online multiplayer in addition to local co-op, so there’s tons of value for money and replayable value.

The best part is, many of these Nintendo Switch games are often on sale! Grab them this summer physical or digital and have endless hours of two-player Nintendo Switch games.
