Historical and Classic Romance

These classic, cozy historical romances are some of my favorites to sink my teeth into, with their beautiful prose, slow burn romance and magical elements.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

If you love a blend of historical fiction with a sprinkle of fantasy, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab is a must-read. Set in 1700s France, it follows Addie, a woman cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets after making a deal for immortality. Atmospheric and beautifully written, this story is as romantic as it gets.

The Song of Achilles

For those who don’t mind a good cry, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller is an unforgettable tale of love and heartbreak. It reimagines the story of the Greek hero Achilles and his companion Patroclus, with stunning prose and deeply emotional moments.

Sense and Sensibility

Jane Austen fans, rejoice! Sense and Sensibility is a classic Regency-era romance about two sisters navigating love and societal expectations. One is practical, while the other is more impulsive, creating a dynamic exploration of love and marriage.

Pride and Prejudice

Arguably Austen’s most famous work, Pride and Prejudice introduces us to Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in a quintessential tale of misunderstandings, slow-burn romance, and witty dialogue.

Persuasion

If you’re looking for Austen’s most romantic work, Persuasion delivers. Following a spinster protagonist at age 27, it’s a second-chance love story filled with poignant moments and an unforgettable love letter.

Contemporary Romance

In this roundup, you’ll find a mix of feel-good contemporary romance and dark, spicy romances inspired by some of your favorite classic fairytales.

Wild Love

Wild Love by Elsie Silver is part of the Rose Hill series and brings contemporary Western vibes with small-town charm. It features a mature romance about a billionaire navigating new parenthood while falling for his best friend’s sister.

The Never After Series

Hooked by Emily McIntyre kicks off a dark and spicy retelling series inspired by fairy tales. The books pair villains with innocent characters for steamy, quick reads.

Part of Your World

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez offers a wholesome romance about a successful businesswoman who falls for a younger carpenter. This highly-rated book has a touch of magic and fairy-tale vibes.

The Ravenhood Series

Flock by Kate Stewart begins a toxic, steamy, and morally gray romance series with Robin Hood-inspired themes. It’s a fast-paced, messy read that’ll either hook you or leave you questioning your choices.

Honorable Mentions

Fantasy Romance & Romantasy

Romantasy, booktok’s favorite genre, is the blend of fantasy and romance. From vampire romances to deadly magical trials, there’s plenty of yearning and romance in the pages!

Crowns of Nyaxia Series

The Crowns of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent is a gripping fantasy romance with rich world-building. For a quick but equally romantic read, check out Six Scorched Roses, a novella about a girl striking a deal with a vampire.

Slaying the Vampire Conqueror

Slaying the Vampire Conqueror is a standalone full-length novel in the series, offering dark vampire romance vibes perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Blood of Hercules

Blood of Hercules combines Greek mythology and dark fantasy romance. It’s a gender-bent retelling of Hercules that’s trope-heavy but intriguing for mythology fans.

Phantasma

Phantasma by K.A. Knight blends necromancer magic with a paranormal romance set in a haunted mansion. It’s a captivating story filled with trials, morally gray characters, and lots of steam.

Kingdom of the Wicked

Kingdom of the Wicked is a YA fantasy romance with historical inspiration. Following two sisters and a quest for vengeance, this darkly romantic tale has captured the hearts of many readers.
